Dr McLeod’s research practice speculates on the interdisciplinary nature of the future of design practice and actively integrates industry based research collaborations with teaching and learning outcomes. His experiences in the fields of product design, furniture design, exhibition design, interior design and architecture have been instrumental in the establishment of a methodological framework for a creative practice that spans the design disciplines. Through his practice he is committed to the development and realisation of design projects, design studio teaching and research activities that extend the boundaries of contemporary spatial design and the sensibilities that surround it.

His recent industry research partners have included Lendlease, City of Casey, Museums Victoria, Transurban, Goulburn Murray Water, Euroluce, Stylecraft, Reece Industries, Haworth Furniture and Grimshaw Architects. He has edited three books; Interior Cities (1999), Intersections (2002) and The Sensuous Intellect (2007). As a curator he has organised the Sensoria Festival of Design Education (2004), the Design Life Symposia (2009 – 2017) and the Knowledge Market Exchange project in Melbourne’s Dockland Precinct (2017 – 2018).
