RESEARCH + PRACTICE
Rob Sowter's design practise is quite diverse - trained in architecture, carpentry and building, with work covering agriculture, residential and commercial architecture and construction.
Rob is interested in the role of the hand - the link between designing, thinking and making. With his practice based in the office, the workshop, in the paddock and on site – he works digitally, by hand on paper or by making either at scale or one to one. He likes the idea of design thinking providing cross disciplinary solutions with varied technologies.
Refining 'where it matters' - making design regularly poses a 'perfect' outcome, but in delivery there are guaranteed compromises, with a proposal wearing compromise to good or ill. Exploring the processes that engage with and even celebrate imperfection in process and outcome.
