‘Wonderment’ draws on arrangement and play in an attempt to create a new way of thinking about the ‘in-between’ or uncertain space, both physically and psychologically. Driven by a desire to change the often negative connotations of living with uncertainty, this body of work uses interior design, the filmic medium and installation art to challenge viewers’ expectations and assumptions of what is definite. The research investigates the bridge between interior design and psychology; how the manipulation of space and object can influence one’s mentality. ‘Wonderment’ is a project that acts as a series of exploratory works, challenging conventions of the everyday and typical living patterns, utilising one site as a vehicle to explore these ideas. This is a project about the disruption of the everyday and routine, through unexpected wonder and unpredictability, ultimately encouraging a positive discomfort, sense of surprise and acceptance of uncertainty.
