RESEARCH + PRACTICE
Bernadette Trench-Thiedeman graduated from Interior Design Hons and has also studied architecture and animation. She is a multi-disciplinary artist who works with theatre making, film, animation, painting, sculpture and installation. She was recently awarded a WA Department of Arts and Culture grant for the re-development of her new theatre work The Divination Agency, performed at the State Theatre of WA. She was selected to undertake the Nes Artist Residency in Iceland in 2016 for the first development of this work. In 2015 she performed in Ngalyak and the Flood a new intercultural dance/puppetry work in Europe. She has toured internationally with the Snuff Puppets and has designed and performed for Lyric Opera, Museum Victoria and independent theatre companies. Her award winning animation work has has been broadcast on NITV, translated into 12 languages for ABC Asia and will be exhibited at the Art Gallery of WA in 2019. She has received Australian and international artist commissions, including from the Ice Hotel Sweden and the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
For the past 15 years Bernadette has also worked with culturally and linguistically diverse people, developing community cultural development projects with artists, educators, scientists and Indigenous Ranger groups in Victoria and Western Australia.
Bernadette is currently undertaking her Masters in Writing for Performance at the VCA.
